During this time, according to his assertion, Towns allegedly avoided facing Butler by sitting out a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat. He further suggested that this was tied to a historic rivalry between the two players, which reportedly dates back to their time as teammates at the Timberwolves.
However, an examination of available facts contradicts Green’s claims. Evidently, Towns did not sit out the offending game dated November 24. According to the official NBA records, Towns indeed participated in the game and played for 39 minutes, scoring 26 points and securing 11 rebounds for his team.
A further critique from fans and critics alike points out that Towns has proven his ability and willingness to face Butler on the court. As per their track record, Towns has not avoided playing against Butler in any of their encounters since Butler’s departure from the Timberwolves in 2018.
