Richard Cohen, the husband of American journalist Meredith Vieira, has died at the age of 76. Cohen, who valiantly battled multiple sclerosis for over five decades, passed away, leaving behind an enduring legacy of courage and determination. His struggle and outlook towards life struck an inspiration chord within many.
As a successful journalist and award-winning television writer and producer, Cohen was deeply admired in his field. He authored several books, including “Blindsided” and “Strong at the Broken Places,” the latter being a perceptive exploration of chronic illness and its impact on individuals’ lives.
While the battle with multiple sclerosis was an integral part of his narrative, Cohen did not let the disease define him. Despite his diagnosis at the age of 25, he carved a remarkable path in the world of journalism and writing. Cohen once said, “I don’t want to be defined by what’s wrong with me. I worry about being marginalized”, demonstrating his enduring resilience.
Cohen is survived by his wife, Meredith Vieira, a veteran broadcast journalist, and their three children. Friends and colleagues, much like the rest of the world, mourned his loss and paid tribute to his unwavering spirit.
Throughout his life, Cohen led with tenacity, courage, and positivity, proving that adversity could be met with strength. As he once beautifully expressed, “The key isn’t about surviving. It’s about living”. His life genuinely reflected this philosophy.
