Two college students have been charged in relation to a scheme devised to exploit a US soldier, according to the police. The students allegedly lured the soldier using a TikTok ploy, reminiscent of the TV show ‘To Catch a Predator’.

The students, Nafes Mono of Portland, Oregon, and Brian Johnson of Brisbane, Australia, were studying at the University of Pennsylvania. Both have been apprehended and charged with criminal conspiracy, reckless endangerment, and false imprisonment.

According to the police report, the pair created a collage of images and videos on TikTok with the goal of attracting a US soldier. The subject fell into their trap, travelling to their location under the premise of meeting a minor for a romantic encounter. The scheme bore a chilling resemblance to ‘To Catch a Predator’, a television show hosted by Chris Hansen that lured potential predators under the guise of meeting underage individuals.

“This was a calculated and heinous act,” stated Detective Davis. “These students used their knowledge and resources to set a dangerous trap. This soldier, like anyone else, deserves safety and respect. Predatory behavior like this will not be tolerated in our community.”

The soldier, who has not been identified for privacy reasons, is currently safe and under the care of military officials. His exact location is being kept confidential.

The accused, Mono and Johnson, are currently being held awaiting trial. Their University has also initiated its own investigation into the incident, with potential academic consequences pending.
