Nicole Eggert, prominently known for her role in “Baywatch,” revealed that she neglected symptoms of breast cancer. While discussing her experience, Eggert urged people to be consistent and mindful about their health checks, more specifically, mammogram screenings.
If diagnosed early, breast cancer can be successfully treated more often than not. According to Breast Cancer Now, about 10% of women under 50 are at risk, making regular check-ups even more critical. (source)
In an emotional statement Eggert shared, “I am one of those women who thought I was invincible, I couldn’t believe it happened to me. I ignored the lump in my breast for a long time, downplaying it as probably nothing serious.” She expressed regret for not taking her health seriously and missing regular mammograms that could have detected the disease at an initial stage.
Having risen to fame through her role as Summer Quinn on “Baywatch,” Eggert’s revelation once again brings attention to the importance of routine health checks and screenings. Breasts can be examined for possible lumps during a mammogram, a process which could save countless lives by diagnosing breast cancer when it is more treatable.
Eggert also emphasized that her hope is to encourage women to prioritize their health and not dismiss any vital signs. To support her words, she referred to studies that have shown more than 55,000 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and about 11,500 women die from the disease. (source)
Given her status and the platform she has, she says that she is committed to using her voice to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, which significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
