Despite her impressive performance in the sport of basketball, Paige Bueckers seems to lack the attention Caitlin Clark often receives. Despite Bueckers’ exceptional statistics and impressive record as a player, middle America’s basketball fans have not accorded her the widespread appraisal or relentless coverage Clark typically enjoys.

Just a year out of high school, Bueckers had an astounding debut season with the UConn Huskies in the NCAA. Her statistics were remarkably high, with averages of 20 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game. She made headlines after becoming the first freshman in history to be named the Associated Press’s Player of the Year.

Regardless of her accomplishments, Bueckers is yet to receive the recognition often associated with Caitlin Clark. Clark plays for the Iowa Hawkeyes, another NCAA team. Despite being just a freshman, Clark was also the nation’s leading scorer this year, averaging 26.7 points per game. Her high-scoring antics have rightly made her a fan favorite and gained her a lot of media attention.

Some speculate that the difference in treatment between the two players may be due to geographical biases. Clark’s team, the Hawkeyes, is based in the Midwest. This could mean that her exploits are more familiar to middle American audiences than Bueckers’, whose team, the Huskies, is based on the East Coast.

This speculation is yet to be confirmed. However, both players are exceptionally talented and have bright futures in the sport. Consistent in their performances, both have proven their mettle and continue to be a force within the NCAA.
