The basketball skills of Florida high school guard, Walter Clayton Jr., have been drawing comparison to NBA superstar Stephen Curry. Clayton, a 6-0, 175 lb guard from Winter Haven High School in Florida has been impressing scouts with his talent and potential.

ESPN scouting reported that Clayton’s range and the ability to change direction quickly reminds them of Curry, as is his knack for scoring in bunches (source). The guard’s playing style, impressive shooting ability, and leadership skills have been particularly noticeable.

Clayton has been making waves in the high school basketball circuit, with an average of 17 points per game and a 40% three-point shooting rate in his junior season. Similarly, Curry established an outstanding high school profile, with a scoring average of 20 points per game and a 48% three-point average.

Just as Curry did when he was in high school, Clayton shows promise as a reliable leader for his team. High school coach Tyrone Woodside praised the young player, saying, “He’s a real leader on and off the court. He keeps his team together, and everyone respects him.”

However, it’s also worth noting that while Clayton is building an impressive profile, comparing him to Stephen Curry at this stage in his career is a high bar to meet. The Golden State Warriors star is a two-time NBA MVP and a key figure in the Warriors’ three NBA championships.

For Clayton’s part, he’s been handling the pressure well. The young guard seems unfazed by the grand comparisons, maintaining his focus on his development. “I always believe in hard work, and whatever the end product of my hard work is, that’s what I am,” said Clayton, seemingly echoing the humility that characterizes Curry.
