Acclaimed actor Gene Hackman and his wife have been tested and the results have been negative for carbon monoxide poisoning, stated a local sheriff. The respected Oscar winner and his spouse underwent tests following concerns of potential exposure to the toxic gas.
The announcement about their health status was issued after local safety officials conducted thorough checks in the couple’s residence for any risks of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, odorless and colorless, and can cause serious health issues even leading to death if not detected and removed promptly.
The sheriff’s office did not provide further details about the circumstances leading to the couple’s testing. Neither did it comment on whether they had shown any symptoms. Hackman, now 91, is highly regarded in the film and entertainment fields where he has experienced a career spanning six decades.
He is a recipient of two Academy Awards – one for The French Connection (1971), and the second one for Unforgiven (1992). He has also been recognized for his mesmerizing performances in other notable films such as The Birdcage and Enemy of the State. However, after his last film appearance in Welcome to Mooseport in 2004, Hackman announced his retirement from acting.
This incident, although now resolved, serves as a reminder of the silent risk of carbon monoxide exposure, particularly during colder months when heating systems are used extensively, said a health safety official.
