The popular character from Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’, Seong Gi-Hun, is set to return in the show’s second season, exemplified by Hot Toys’ recent announcement of a new figure dedicated to him. The new action figure reaffirms the character’s continued engagement in the harsh world of deadly children games.
Hot Toys, a Hong Kong-based company known for high-quality and detailed collectible figurines, has unveiled the Seong Gi-Hun figure. The figure strikes an accurate depiction of the character, which is played by Lee Jung-Jae in the incredibly popular South Korean series.
The figurine captures the critical design elements of Gi-Hun’s character, such as his green tracksuit which is a distinctive feature of the series. Although the company has not disclosed the dimensions and release date of the figure, it is expected to be a part of Hot Toys’ Movie Masterpiece Series which features 1/6th scale models.
‘Squid Game’, which premiered on Netflix in September 2021, quickly became the streaming service’s biggest show ever. Despite the show’s violent nature, it has been well-received worldwide for its portrayal of societal issues like income inequality and debt. Gi-Hun, the series’ protagonist, is a down-on-his-luck gambler who sees the deadly games as a potential solution to his financial troubles.
With a second season in the offing and Gi-Hun’s story left unresolved, the launch of the new Hot Toys figure further supports the theory of his return. However, the creators of ‘Squid Game’ have yet not revealed the story arc for the upcoming season.
Netflix’s commitment to the show was cemented by their decision to greenlight a second season, despite the season one’s standalone story. This new action figure of Gi-Hun from Hot Toys serves as a testament to the immense global popularity of the series.
