As per the latest reports, Munich police have revealed that a suspected vehicle attack has inflicted injury on at least 36 individuals. Information on the exact severity of the injuries wasn’t immediately available.
The incident took place on Thursday morning, with the police being alerted to the situation at around 7:15 AM. The suspect vehicle appeared to have deliberately rammed into other vehicles, causing widespread damage and panic.
The suspect, a 33-year-old male, was apprehended at the scene by the Munich police. Preliminary investigations indicate that he was acting alone. His motives, however, remain unclear and are part of an ongoing investigation.
Shortly after the incident, police took to their Twitter account, advising the public to avoid the area: “We are currently securing the accident site and ask you to avoid the area around Rosenheimer Platz.” The streets around the Rosenheimer Platz were subsequently cordified off to allow emergency services to operate without hindrance.
Speaking about the incident, Munich’s Police President Hubertus Andrä commented, “Such an act causes fear and horror…We will do everything to investigate the background extensively.”
This incident follows a spate of vehicle attacks across Europe in recent years. The most devastating of these occurred in Nice, France in 2016, when a truck rammed into crowds celebrating Bastille Day, killing 86 people.
