The Los Angeles Lakers still need certain improvements even though they already had an impressive team build-up for the NBA season, as per Anthony Davis. He said in an interview that although the Lakers are “right there”, they need to bolster their roster with a quality center. Davis himself has often played as a center for the Lakers, but prefers his position as a power forward.

While they’ve had a successful 2019-20 season, concluding with their 17th NBA championship, Davis suggests that stepping up the center position could enhance their overall game. He explained, “I like playing the four. I’m not even going to sit here and sugarcoat it. I don’t like playing the five, but if it comes down to me playing the five and winning a championship, then I’ll play the five.” He made it clear though that a more permanent solution for the center position would be beneficial for the team.

Currently, the Lakers are planning to beef up their lineup in the forwards and guards positions with players like Dwight Howard, JaVale McGee, and Marc Gasol. However, Davis has emphasized the continued requirement for a sturdy center. It is yet to be seen how the Lakers’ management will move forward with this suggestion.

Prior to Davis’s comments, the Lakers have stayed relatively quiet regarding their roster management for the upcoming season. Despite Davis’s push for a new center, no specific potential recruits have been named publicly. With the new season just around the corner, any major line-up amendments will need to be executed fast.

Davis re-signed with the Lakers in December 2020, on a five-year, $190 million deal. After helping guide the Lakers to the title in his first season with the team, Davis is expected to once again play a key role in their pursuit of another championship.
