Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal has accomplished a significant milestone, securing his place in the main draw of an ATP event in Auckland. This competitive event marks Nagal’s debut in the main stage of the ASB Classic, increasing his global recognition in the professional tennis landscape.

24-year-old Nagal, ranking 136 in the world, earned his spot after showing an impressive performance across the qualifying rounds in New Zealand. He bested higher-ranked tennis players, demonstrating a remarkable rise in his career and furthering global recognition.

Hailed from Jhajjar in Haryana, Nagal made his Grand Slam debut in 2019 as a qualifier for the US Open. His first appearance in New York had caused quite a stir when he took a memorable opening set against grand slam champion Roger Federer. Positioned initially at a global ranking of 190, his Auckland accomplishment marks a significant climb up.

Previously, Nagal was also the receiver of the ATP Challenger Tour title in Buenos Aires. The achievement was the second of its kind in his career and showed promise for further success in international tournaments.

Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, Nagal has managed to make strides in his tennis career and continues to represent India with pride on the world stage. His latest achievement in Auckland only strengthens his position amongst the rising tennis stars globally and brings optimism to Indian tennis enthusiasts.
