Online personality Imane “Pokimane” Anys recently landed in hot water after sharing direct messages (DMs) sent to her by fellow streamer FaZe Kaysan. Anys showcased the messages, which included an invitation to dinner from Kaysan, during one of her live streams.

Kaysan, a member of the well-known esports organization FaZe Clan, messaged Anys with his dinner request. However, Anys’ decision to publicly share the private conversation between them, has been met with strong criticism from social media users, gaming enthusiasts, and several prominent voices in the esports community.

Some commentators argued that Anys’ act was a breach of trust, as privacy within direct messages is typically expected and respected among online personalities. However, others in the gaming community expressed that Kaysan should have been more cautious regarding the personal nature of his communication given the public nature of their professions.

Anys and Kaysan haven’t yet responded to the controversy that has followed the live stream. Both being significant figures within the streaming and gaming communities, the incident has sparked extensive debate about proper online etiquette and the boundaries of privacy in the digital realm.

In the past, there have been similar incidents which created a debate within the community about the disclosure of private messages. However, no formal rules have been established yet by platforms like Twitch, where both Anys and Kaysan are prominent figures.

This incident could contribute to further discussion about the need for clearer expectations and guidelines for the behaviour and professional ethics of online streamers and esports athletes.
